For a while, cocktails and I didn’t have much to do with one another. When I went out I had no idea what to order, not having tried too many—and not having much liked the ones I’d tried. Most of them were either too sweet or too boozy for me (I hadn’t yet learned about good whiskey). Sure, I had a Long Island iced tea or ten in college, but I don’t remember trying much else besides the occasional screwdriver at a party.
