This morning, search committee leader Caroline Latta sent an e-mail to department faculty and staff announcing that John Green has been tapped to succeed retiring Columbia College theater chair Sheldon Patinkin. A native of England, Green was a professor of theater and department chair at Butler University in Indianapolis until he resigned last week. He takes over at Columbia on June 29. Patinkin, a walking treasury of Chicago theater history, will take some time off, then come back to teach. He’s been Columbia theater chair for nearly three decades, during which the department became an important national center for training in the performing arts.
