The Butcher & Larder is hosting a launch event in a couple weeks for the new Michael Ruhlman cookbook Ruhlman’s Twenty: 20 people will get to make sausage, then put together a sausage and escarole soup recipe from the cookbook, in the company of Ruhlman and Butcher & Larder owner Rob Levitt. For a chance to be one of the 20, tweet your story of an “aha” moment involving a cooking technique or ingredient to Levitt at @butcherlarder. More details are available on Levitt’s blog, at the end of a really lovely post about why he’s such a huge fan of Ruhlman. The cooking event is at the shop (1026 N. Milwaukee) on Tuesday, October 11, from 6 to 8 PM, followed by a book signing from 8 to 9 PM that’s open to the general public.

Update: Ruhlman will also be signing copies of the cookbook at the Merchandise Mart location of the Chopping Block on Wednesday, October 12; he’s tentatively scheduled for a slot from noon to 1:30 PM (call to confirm). He’ll then sign copies from 5 to 9:30 PM that evening at the Publican, where in addition to the a la carte menu there’ll be a Ruhlman-themed four-course prix fixe dinner available; it’s $45, $60 with beer pairings.

Update: Ruhlman’s event at the Chopping Block includes a cooking demonstration of recipes from the book. It’s set for noon through 1:30 PM and is $50, which includes a copy of the book. Space is limited; you can reserve a spot by calling 312-644-6360 or registering online at
