The sky is falling, the sky is falling, waaa, waaa. While Cubs fans luxuriate like pigs in the self-pity puddle of 100 years, it’s good to see that GM Jim Hendry still has his head on his shoulders. Re-signing Ryan Dempster is huge for this team, and the relatively low price tag will still leave them enough cash to compete in the free agent market. Dempster had more strikeouts than hits allowed, and topped 200 innings with little difficulty, despite not having done so since 2001. He had a much better season in 2008 than fellow free agent Derek Lowe, and is several years younger, yet Lowe will almost certainly land a richer deal. Kudos to Hendry for getting this done.
