Megan McDonald, director of the Bureau of Special Events in the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, turned in her resignation today, effective tomorrow, according to a city spokesperson. Acting commissioner Katherine LaMantia is also leaving DCASE.
McDonald, who’s headed Special Events since Mayor Daley appointed her in 2007, has been the target of criticism for changes proposed and made in the city’s vaunted summer festivals during her watch. LaMantia had been holding down the commissioner’s job since the abrupt departure last January of longtime cultural affairs guru Lois Weisberg.
Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel announced last week that Joyce Foundation program officer Michelle Boone will be DCASE commissioner in his administration.
