Over the past decade San Francisco band Deerhoof has consistently remained one of my favorite rock acts, combining off-kilter but memorable pop melodies, jarring rhythms, and inventive guitar playing. Deerhoof has plenty of fans among other musicians, but I wouldn’t necessarily have expected local classical composer Marcos Balter to be among them—but there I go, letting my assumptions get in the way. It turns out that Balter, a Brazilian native, is a big fan of Deerhoof’s music, and at a Pritzker Pavilion concert on Thursday he’ll get the chance to show the world. He wrote a new orchestral arrangement for Deerhoof’s song “Eaguru Guru,” from the 2009 album Offend Maggie (Kill Rock Stars). After the jump you can check out the original video for that tune.
