UIC economics, history, English, and communication prof Deirdre N. McCloskey has just published the second volume of her planned six-volume history on “The Bourgeois Era.” She’ll discuss Bourgeois Dignity: Why Economics Can’t Explain the Modern World (University of Chicago Press) on Wed 12/1, 6 PM, at 57th Street Books.

Through November the University of Chicago Press is offering a free e-book of the prequel, The Bourgeois Virtues: Ethics for an Age of Commerce.

Dennis Rodkin profiled McCloskey in a December 2003 Reader story, “Sex and Transsexuals.”
