Sun-Times pop critic Jim DeRogatis announced last month that he’d be leaving the paper for a spot in academia and a blog for Vocalo. Responses from the music community ranged, predictably, from the somber and respectful to the absolutely gleeful. Defying some of the inside-baseball wagers going around following the news, the paper announced Robert Feder reported at Vocalo today that DeRo will be replaced by his editor at the Sun-Times, Thomas Conner, who’s also the former pop critic at the World in Tulsa, Oklahoma. “The Sun-Times has always had its ear pretty close to the ground,” Conner said in a statement to Vocalo today told Feder, “and I plan to get out there and explore some street-level sounds as well as whatever lumbers into Soldier Field.”
