This is a terrible time to leave town — when the fate of the Sun-Times, the paper where I once worked and think of as close to an alma mater, hangs in the balance (along with the fate of the entire Sun-Times Media Group). I hope this blog continues to serve as the forum it’s turned into, where the tactics of Jim Tyree and Jeremy Halbreich and the interests of union vis a vis nonunion employees are passionately debated and — I’d say — a good deal of light is shed. But I’ll be out of town for the next week, emceeing a class reunion at another alma mater, so there will be little if any input from me for a while at this address. I hope to God when I get back Chicago still has all its newspapers.
