Thanks to the Memorial Day weekend, on-sale announcements are sparse this time around. There are still some gems in Early Warnings, though, including Boris with Russian Circles at Metro, DePedro at Schubas, Modern English at Double Door, Nappy Roots at Reggie’s Rock Club, and Rasputina, Sweet Apple, and Tesco Vee’s Hate Police at Abbey Pub (on three different nights, of course).
In street-fair news, the impressive schedule for Ribfest Chicago (June 11 through 13) has been announced: it features Califone, the Whigs, Bottle Rockets, Langhorne Slim, and Those Darlins. Wicker Park Fest (July 31 and August 1) is setting itself apart from the rest this year with a music lineup that keeps sounding better the more I hear about it. So far it includes Cap’n Jazz, Holy Fuck, Baroness, Mission of Burma, Plants and Animals, Gaslamp Killer, and Torche.
Speaking of festivals, don’t forget about the second edition of the Windy City Sound Clash at Subterranean this weekend. It’s four shows in three days, with a total of 28 bands—basically an all-you-can-eat buffet of punk, pop punk, and rock ‘n’ roll, including a rare reunion set from the Mushuganas.
As always, check out my full list of this week’s notables after the jump:
