It is hot. And after Blues Fest and Midsommarfest last weekend, our tan lines are rather unfortunate due to a haphazard sunscreen application. Let’s have a week indoors surrounded by cucumber-cool air conditioning at these prime events:
Mon 6/12: Formerly known as LezFest, the semiannual SheFest variety show celebrates queer women with stories, clowning, and a special fire dancing performance by multifaceted artist and comedian Tamale Sepp. (Extinguishers not included.) Stand-up Shannon Noll hosts the event at Pride Arts Center (4147 N. Broadway). 7:30 PM, $10
Mon 6/12: Andrew Tavin and Mary Jordan host the stand-up showcase Are You Smarter Than a Comedian?, featuring trivia and audience games, at North Bar (1637 W. North). 9 PM, free
Tue 6/13: During The Seven Deadly Sins at Cafe Mustache (2313 N. Milwaukee), seven writers educate audience members on each of the actions on the no-no list during this monthly storytelling night. 8 PM, free
Tue 6/13: Does Harold Ramis’s beloved film Caddyshack stand the test of time? Decide for yourself—with the help of host and cultural journalist Mark Caro—during the Is It Still Funny? film series at Music Box (3733 N. Southport). 7:30 PM, $12
Wed 6/14: At the top of their two-man sketch show Four Man Show at iO Theater (1501 N. Kingsbury), white guy Jeremy Sender describes himself as straight, while Corey Caldwell, who’s black, says he’s “omnisexual” but will one day identify as gay. What follows is more than a dozen short bits in which the two play people of many persuasions, addressing hot-button topics like Black Lives Matter, sexual harassment, and interracial adoption. 10 PM, $5
Thu 6/15: Reading Under the Influence at Sheffield’s (3258 N. Sheffield) features original short stories and literary work, as well as trivia contests and prizes. Oh, and the “influence” part is booze. In case that wasn’t clear. This month’s hosts are Michael Meyer, Frankie Migacz, Jon Natzke and Daniel Story. 7-9 PM, $3
Thu 6/15: Group exhibit “Spaces Without Drama,” at Graham Foundation (4 W. Burton), examines how sets in theatrical performances resemble architecture scale models. 6 PM, free
