Saturday afternoon a large group of friends and admirers gathered at the Green Mill to remember Evan Garfinkel, a true renaissance man who died in November in Las Vegas, too damn young. The diverse crowd–people from all over the country (and France)–reflected his broad interests in the blues, German philosophy, and food. In addition to being an accomplished drummer, an ebullient bon vivant, and a discriminating, sometimes unforgiving eater, he was a brilliant writer, and his lengthy, hilarious, and trenchant contributions to LTHForum will bust guts for a long time to come. I was lucky enough to meet the hungryrabbi, as he was known, a few times, and I’m much the richer for it. R.I.P., Evan.
