As mentioned in this week’s Gossip Wolf, this Saturday is the first annual International Cassette Store Day—a Record Store Day-esque celebration of the once forgotten and recently reappreciated audio medium of cassette tapes—and Avondale’s Bric-a-Brac Records is the only shop in the state celebrating the holiday. In honor of the occasion, labels from around the world will be releasing exclusive short runs of some awesome albums on cassette, including Fucked Up’s breakthrough Hidden World, this year’s lone Guided by Voices release English Little League, and the 1983 self-titled debut from Riot Fest act Suicidal Tendencies. Bric-a-Brac will be carrying some of the exclusive releases (there’s a full list of those on the official Cassette Store Day website), as well as a few other hard-to-find items, like a four-album Naked Raygun tape pack and big selection of Bollywood soundtracks; it’ll also host tape vendors from a variety of local labels, like Eye Vybe, Notes & Bolts, and Plustapes. What’s especially great about Bric-a-Brac’s party is its huge all-day lineup of awesome live bands. Headlined by Chicago’s “best rock band” Cairo Gang, the day also features hourly sets from garage rockers the Sueves, brand-new sci-fi punkers Hollow Mountain, and slop-pop band the Funs. Full lineup and schedule is after the jump.
