- Â Â Â Â Â Police will increase security at Pride Parade with a “few hundred” more cops
Chicago Police Department superintendent Eddie Johnson announced that there will be a “few hundred” more officers patrolling the upcoming Pride Parade, although there’s no credible threat to the parade or the city at this time. More cops will also be deployed to the lakefront, CTA stations, and popular downtown areas. Negotiations are reportedly going forward at a Los Angeles site owned by the University of Southern California (George Lucas’s alma mater) and at Treasure Island, San Francisco’s “landfill turned naval base.” [Sun-Times]
- Â Â Â Chicago police officer allegedly referred to Obama with racial slur
The Independent Police Review Authority has recommended firing a cop who allegedly referred to President Barack Obama with “an offensive racial remark” (reportedly the N-word) during a 2015 visit to Chicago. After investigating the incident, the agency was able to confirm it had happened, but had concerns about other officers it believes heard the remark despite denying it during interviews conducted as part of the investigation. - Â Â Â Â Â Tigers will be leaving Lincoln Park Zoo to make way for new lion house
Lincoln Park Zoo is investing heavily in lions and will eventually replace its tigers, Pavel and Molly. During planned renovations to the historic Kovler Lion House, the zoo will add more lions to the exhibit and remove the “asocial” tigers. The change doesn’t mean that tigers won’t return to the zoo at some point in the future, according to CEO Kevin Bell. “We hope someday to build a tiger habitat, probably at the south end. But for now, we want to have a bigger pride of lions,” he said. [DNAinfo Chicago]
