Logan Square’s Karissa Talanian originally launched Eye Vybe Records in 2011 simply as a method of putting out tapes by her band at the time, but at some point last year, things picked up and got serious. “I got the itch to release music by friends, including the Sueves and Dark Fog, so I purchased a tape duplicator and started putting out tapes in runs of 50,” she says. As of today, Talanian has put out over 20 Eye Vybe releases—which are no longer limited to cassette tapes—and this weekend she enters her first foray into festival booking with the psychedelic-leaning Good Vybes Fest at Empty Bottle.

Today and Saturday, the Good Vybes Fest features a stacked lineup of garage, punk, and psych bands from all over the country—some who’ve put out material on Eye Vybe and some who haven’t. Tonight’s show is headlined by Nashville punks Useless Eaters, with support from local psych-poppers Outer Minds, heady rockers Rabble Rabble, and bedroom garage project Todays Hits. Saturday’s lineup is headlined by Michigan lo-fi four-piece People’s Temple, with local openers the Velcro Lewis Group and the Sueves, as well as Asheville’s Nest Egg. Shows start at 9 PM on both nights, and are only $10 each. Talarian also says that she hopes to put together another Good Vybes Fest in the summer, so be on the lookout for that.
