Built on the banks of the Fox River, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s 57-year-old Farnsworth House is now at least temporarily located in it. Last weekend’s heavy rains caused the river to overflow its banks and invade Mies’s masterpiece of modernist restraint even though it’s stilted atop five-foot columns. Tours are indefinitely suspended and Landmarks Illinois is already soliciting contributions. Details at the Farnsworth House Web site.
