Today marks the opening of Fashioning Desire, a show of work by nine local fashion photographers, at City Gallery in the Historic Water Tower, 806 N.Michigan. The exhibit includes images by both established and emerging photographers, including Brian Kuhlmann, Sandro, and Erika Dufour. Hours are 10 AM to 6:30 PM Monday through Saturday and 10 AM to 5 PM Sunday. The show runs through January 10.
Tonight, local designer Ashley Zygmunt previews the fall collection of her line, Zamrie, and holds a sale of spring and summer items. It’s from 5 to 8 PM at her studio, 1213 W. Diversey.

This weekend’s Italian Expo at Navy Pier focuses on food, art, and, of course, fashion. A handful of Chicago designers, including Agga B., C/FAN, and Veil are taking part in a weekend-long Fashion Icon competition, during which attendees can vote for their favorite. The winner, who will be announced Sunday, gets a trip to the Polimoda International Institute of Design and Marketing in Florence. Expo tickets are $10 if you buy online by 10 PM today and $15 at the door. Kids under 12 get in free.
Though it seems like most women would like to be taller, apparently it can be tough for the vertically blessed to find clothes that fit correctly. (Join the club.) Long Tall Sally, a British retailer serving women 5’8” and up, is hosting a pop-up shop in the Picasso Ballroom of the Omni Chicago Hotel, 676 North Michigan, this weekend. Hours are 10 to 6 on Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday.
