This Sunday is the fourth Chicago Chefs for Choice fund-raiser to end the foie gras ban, and predictably generals on both sides of the battle are rallying the troops and ramping up the rhetoric. “The Chicago Foie Gras ban is cursing the whole City and the Chicago Bears” reads the flyer. The $139 six-course dinner at Cyrano’s Bistrot is preceded by a noon rally in front of the restaurant, which will provide signs, coffee, and uh . . . chewing gum.Â
Meanwhile, anti-foie forces are planning a counterprotest at 5 PM in front of the restaurant. San Diego-based Animal Protection & Rescue League and other animal rights groups are planning to show. If this clash of the titans is anything like the last one, I doubt anyone will be swayed either way. But it outta be good for some yuks.
“I am sharpening my knives!” warns Cyrano’s chef Didier Durand in an e-mail.
