Despite the doubts I expressed when I wrote my first piece about footwork music a couple years ago, the giddily weird, hyperfast, Chicago-born dance-music style has managed to attract a fan base that circles the globe. The latest stop on footwork’s world-domination tour is Barcelona, where DJs Spinn and Rashad, accompanied by footwork dancer Lite Bulb, took the stage at the Sonar Festival yesterday to chants of “Juke! Juke! Juke!” and proceeded to wreck the joint with a loopy, melodic set—complete with a twitchy “Niggas in Paris” remix. It makes footwork’s crossover potential look pretty dang good. You can stream audio of their entire set through the Red Bull Music Academy website.
