The Arts of Life Band

Kenny Rasmussen’s matinee library punk shows have been bringing consistently great free music to the south side this year, and this weekend he hosts his third installment of the series, this time up in Rogers Park. Started in January as a way for people to catch ambitious local music without being out at a bar all night, the series has already hosted some of Chicago’s most interesting bands, such as Radar Eyes, Running, and Ono. So far these performances have taken place at the Bridgeport branch of the Chicago Public Library, but other locations have taken interest, and on Sat 6/13, things are heading north to the Rogers Park branch. This time around, the Arts of Life Band—the superfun nonprofit project that helps the developmentally disabled create music—headlines, and spacey, minimal duo the Hecks open; both bands will be performing outside. Things kick off at 2 PM, the show is free, and all ages are welcome. This series seems to be picking up some traction, and I can’t wait to see what’s next on its schedule.
