From a Whsiper

  • “From a Whsiper”

An artist whose mother died in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing in Nairobi, Kenya, bonds with an intelligence officer whose best friend was killed in the same attack, in Wanuri Kahiu’s 2008 drama From a Whisper, which explores the aftermath for victims and their loved ones, ten years after the events of Aug. 7, 1998, when U.S. embassies were bombed in Nairobi and in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

From a Whisper screens as part of the African Jubilee Film Festival, today at 2 p.m. at the DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 E. 56th St.

It’s preceded by Nathan Collette’s short Kibera Kid, about a Nairobi orphan forced to reevaluate his life in a street gang. Northwestern Anglophone African literature professor Evan Maina Mwangi will hold a discussion after the screening.
