- San Francisco is in “preliminary talks” regarding the Lucas Museum
Looks like Mellody Hobson wasn’t bluffing: San Francisco supervisor Aaron Peskin confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that the Bay Area city has been in talks with representatives of the Lucas Museum about building it on Treasure Island, which sits in the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland. Lucas and company began looking at options outside Chicago after facing strong opposition from Friends of the Parks over a lakefront location. [Tribune]
- Rahm wants to eliminate controversial Independent Police Review Authority
The next step in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to rebuild trust between the public and the police is to get rid of the Independent Police Review Authority. Emanuel discussed his desire to replace the agency, which reviews police shootings and officer misconduct, with a new civilian oversight agency. “IPRA’s work is important. An independent review of actions. But IPRA itself has lost credibility with the public,” Emanuel says.[ABC 7 Chicago]
- Final suspect in Tyshawn Lee slaying arrested in downstate Danville
The brutal murder of nine-year-old Tyshawn Lee made national news. Now the last of three suspects in the alleged gang-retaliation murder has been arrested. Kevin Edwards, 23, is in custody in downstate Danville after a traffic stop and a chase. The Chicago Police Department is working on bringing Edwards back to Chicago. [Tribune]
- The TSA lines at Midway and O’Hare are driving everyone crazy
Travelers were subjected to a nightmare at O’Hare and Midway airports this weekend with waits at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints so long that many people missed flights. A video of a painfully long TSA line at Midway last week even went viral. [NBC Chicago] [Tribune]
- What’s next for Dick Wolf after Chicago Justice?
TV producer Dick Wolf has made an empire out of Chicago-based shows for NBC, with Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, and now Chicago Justice. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has some ideas for Wolf’s possible fifth Chicago show, from Chicago Library to Chicago Pizza to Chicago School (which features Mad Men star Jon Hamm as a teacher at Scottie Pippen High School).
