Good news hit my inbox last night: chemist turned rapper Psalm One drops the third installment in her Women @ Work mix-tape series today. I’m still on my first listen, but the first four songs alone justify the hard-drive space. So far I’ve caught an Alanis Morissette burn and a reference to Dave Chappelle’s “women be shoppin'” line from the Nutty Professor. Psalm’s lyrics are typically dense and deep, and I think people, myself included, tend to forget that for all the heavy political content in her songs she’s also an extremely funny writer.

If for some reason you’re on the fence about downloading a free album from one of the best rappers in the city, Ruby Hornet has the swirling, gothic “Ginsu Knives,” costarring Del tha Funkee Homosapien, which opens the mix tape.
