The Secret History of Chicago Music, a gorgeous and informative strip written and drawn by Steve Krakow (aka Plastic Crimewave), has been a regular part of the Reader for more than five years. Now it’s breaking into the world of fine art with a month-long exhibit at the MCA, part of the museum’s 12 x 12 New Artists/New Work series (which recently featured White/Light’s sound installation). A selection of the 8.5-by-11-inch ink drawings that Krakow scans for the Reader will be on view from May 7 (the exhibit’s opening is part of the museum’s monthly First Friday soiree) through May 30. Krakow will talk about the drawings at 6 PM on May 11. There will also be four performances by Secret History subjects during the run: Ono (May 11, 7 PM, Puck’s Cafe), Bil Vermette (May 15, 3 PM, 12 x 12 Gallery), Phil Cohran (May 18, 7 PM, Puck’s Cafe), and Chet Nichols (May 25, 7 PM, 12 x 12 Gallery).
