Los Angeles stoner-metal band Goatsnake have shared the first single from their upcoming LP Black Age Blues, their first full-length release in 15 years. Formed in 1996 and headed up by guitarist Greg Anderson, one half of ultraheavy experimental drone-doom duo SunnO))), and vocalist Pete Stahl, formerly the vocalist of hardcore band Scream (which featured a very young Dave Grohl on drums), Goatsnake joined the Southwest stoner-rock scene and blasted out groovy, ten-ton slabs of Sabbath worship. On their new song “Elevated Man,” today’s 12 O’Clock Track, they make it clear that nothing has changed in their absence: heavy-as-hell, monster guitar riffs channel Tony Iommi’s best, and the bridge is topped off with a rough-around-the-edges harmonica solo. Out of the two SunnO))) dudes, Anderson always seemed like the one who had a little bit more fun with his music, and this stoner stomper proves that’s still the case. Check it out below; maximum volume is highly recommended. Black Age Blues is due out on June 2 via Southern Lord Records.
