- The Cubs are “Committed” this season, according to their ad slogan.
It ain’t over till it’s half over, as Yogi Berra might say about this year’s Cubs and White Sox. Midway through the 2013 campaign, the Cubs are in fourth place, 10 games under .500, and 15 1/2 games out. The White Sox are in last, 15 under, and 11 behind.
But for the eternal optimist and willfully ignorant, there’s reason for cheer on both sides of town:
Gordon Beckham is hitting .331 for the Sox.
Kevin Gregg has an ERA of 1.59 for the Cubs, and last night notched his 14th save in 15 tries.
Adam Dunn has 22 homers, and his average is crowding .200.
Cubs southpaw starter Travis Wood’s ERA is just 2.85.
