312 Chicago hosts a Chianti tasting Thursday from 5 to 7 PM to benefit the One Acre Fund, a nonprofit that aims to alleviate hunger in Africa by helping people grow their own food. Stefan Keuhne of Riecine, a Tuscan producer of the Sangiovese grape, leads the tasting of his company’s Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, and the “super Tuscan” La Gioia, acclaimed by wine critic Robert Parker. Executive chef Dean Zanella, a proponent of sustainable agriculture, provides the appetizers. $35.

According to some sources, National Hamburger Day falls in May, during National Hamburger Month, but Silver Cloud Bar & Grill and Weber Grill are both celebrating it Friday. The specials at Silver Cloud, $8.50 each, include a southwest cheddar burger with avocado and jalapenos, a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top, a chili cheeseburger with sour cream and red onions, and a Cuban burger, pressed like a panini with roasted garlic, Dijon mustard, Swiss cheese, Canadian bacon, and pickles. Weber Grill offers its usual large selection of burgers, priced from $10.50 to $10.95, including a Wisconsin burger with applewood smoked bacon and cheddar, a “black and blue” burger with Black Angus beef and blue cheese, and the Friday special, a mushroom-Swiss burger.

The downtown and Lakeview locations of Binny’s offer free tastings Friday from 4 to 8 PM of 12-, 15-, and 18-year-old scotches from Glenfiddich; buy a bottle and you get a personalized label. Some suburban locations also have tastings of the single malt on Saturday; check here for details. Glenfiddich is not only made at a single distillery (which is what qualifies its scotch as single malt) but also uses spring water from a single source—the only producer to do so.

Green City Market‘s last winter market at the Notebaert Nature Museum is this Saturday from 7 AM to noon. It won’t start up again until May, but in the meantime there are a few other options for winter farmer’s markets.

Cyrano’s Bistrot has a prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner from 4 to 8 PM on Monday. Among the choices for the four-course meal are lobster bisque, roasted French goose with chestnut stuffing, and rack of lamb. An a la carte menu will also be available. $39.99.
