The Eclipse, Shattered Globe, and City Lit theaters are pooling resources this season for “Lillian Hellmania!”–described as “a moveable feast of a festival” honoring the work of Lillian Hellman , an author as famous for her life–which included defying the House Un-American Activities Committee and loving novelist Dashiell Hammett–as her literary output. The project begins this fall when Eclipse stages Hellman’s little-known 1951 drama The Autumn Garden, 11/13-12/21 at the Greenhouse Theater Center (formerly Victory Gardens Greenhouse). Next up is Hellman’s most famous play, The Little Foxes, mounted by Shattered Globe 1/8-3/8, also at the Greenhouse. Concurrently, an original adaptation of Hellman’s controversial memoir of the McCarthy era, Scoundrel Time, will run 1/30-3/8 at City Lit. A pass to all three shows costs $65, with discounts for subscribers to any of the three participating theaters. Call Eclipse at 312-738-0704, Shattered Globe at 773-770-0333, or City Lit at 773-293-3682.
