Prohibition was the culmination of a long twilight struggle between “Wet” and “Dry” elements of the American populace, and the conflict frequently tipped over into violence. I’m guessing the Beers here had the upper hand, with disinhibition and perhaps better violence skills compensating for the fact that they were all messed up.
