Reader contributor Nicholas Day has a nice piece on the American aversion to eating horse meat in the latest edition of the online magazine Chow. I confess, even though I abandoned my vegetarian ways many years ago and have since gone on to eat all manner of offal without flinching, I still can’t quite stomach the thought of sitting down to a nice hot plate of Misty of Chincoteague. But, as Nick points out, while it’s not against the law to eat horse meat, it is illegal to package it for human consumption in Illinois, so I’m probably not going to get to test that particular boundary anytime soon.
