The Chicago Red Stars take on the defending champions, FC Kansas City, at Toyota Park at 12:30 PM this Sunday in the semifinals of the National Women’s Soccer League. I bet you read it here first.

Which is too bad. The Red Stars’ Julie Johnston, Christen Press, and Lori Chalupny were the toast of journalism this summer when they and their U.S. teammates won the World’s Cup in Canada. Now their team barely gets a nod in its hometown papers.

Sibyl Muñoz, the Red Stars’ media rep, told me she’s had better luck this week getting her players on TV than in the papers. That said, during her visit to CSN Thursday, Press was asked to say a lot more about the “victory tour” and next year’s Olympics than about the Kansas City game. Actually, that didn’t come up. Viewers must have wondered why Press was on.
