The press release I got today announcing the New York Dolls’ reunion (passing through February 23 at the Double Door) is notable mainly for saying they are “simply, the Beatles of attitude.”

This is a bit overblown, no? The Dolls never made a White Album of attitude. They never hung out with a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of attitude (no, Malcolm McLaren doesn’t count). And we can be reasonably sure at this juncture (or at least we have a solid basis to hope) that unlike the remaining living Dolls, the remaining living Beatles will not be doing any reunion tours, no matter how much buckage it would reap. Which actually might make the Beatles the Beatles of attitude.
