Round one of the Greatest Chicago Book Tournament came to an end yesterday with judge Andrea Battleground declaring victory for The House on Mango Street over The Book of My Lives. It was a victorious day for a pair of Reader readers, too: they were the only two entrants out of more than 400 to correctly predict the judges’ rulings in all eight contests in round one and remain in the running for the grand prize trip to Mexico. Depending on how the coin toss goes, one will also win a $50 gift certificate from Barbara’s Bookstore.
But the rest of you, don’t despair! It’s time for round two, and we’ve got another gift certificate to give away to whoever best predicts the judges’ decisions.
Here’s how the bracket looks right now:
And here’s your ballot:
You have until midnight this Sunday, January 18, to submit your ballot. You must vote on every bout for your ballot to count. The judges will start handing down their decisions on Mondays, starting January 19. Voting for round three begins February 10 and runs through March 1; the judges will begin handing down their decisions on March 2. And, finally, voting on the ultimate greatest book begins March 10 and runs through April 5. We’ll reveal both winners, the greatest book, and the name of the lucky reader who gets to go to Mexico, in our Spring Books Issue on April 16.
So get voting. Round Two starts . . . now.
The fine print:
Voting runs as follows:
Round one: November 19-November 23, 11:59 PM
Round two: January 13-January 18, 11:59 PM
Round three: February 10-March 1, 11:59 PM
Final: March 10-April 5, 11:59 PM
