Jazz trumpeter Corey Wilkes plays a free show tonight as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Tuesdays on the Terrace concert series. Wilkes is a versatile player who, since 2004, has filled jazz great Lester Bowie’s chair in the Art Ensemble of Chicago, which made Reader critic Neil Tesser’s 2006 top five list.

Wilkes often doesn’t pick his band until the day of performances and as of yesterday afternoon hadn’t announced the lineup for the trio he’ll lead tonight. Expect his group to go on promptly at 5:45 PM after an introduction from jazz radio personality Al Carter Bey.

Guests are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic on the grass with food and drink sold on the premises. Call 312-397-3828 or visit the MCA’s Web site with any questions.
