The Weinstein Company has bought the film rights to Tracy Letts’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County, which premiered here in Chicago at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in July 2007 before moving on to Broadway later that year. TWC honcho Harvey Weinstein will produce the film, along with Steve Traxler of Jam Theatricals and Jean Doumanian, best known as Woody Allen’s longtime producer (Bullets Over Broadway, Sweet and Lowdown). All three collaborated on the Broadway production. This will be Letts’s second play adapted to the screen, following William Friedkin’s adaptation of Bug.
