The Bug Trainer

  • “The Bug Trainer”

Ladislas Starewitch used real carcasses of beetles, ants, grasshoppers and frogs to create his early stop motion animations, depicting powerful human emotions, and sometimes political intrigue, that fooled some viewers into thinking they were watching live trained animals.

The Lithuanian Film Festival in Chicago opens Thursday 1/21 with The Bug Trainer, a documentary portrait of Starewitch, who worked in Lithuania, Russia and France from 1912 until his death in 1965.
