One Hundred Voices
ICE bassoonist Rebekah Heller (I wrote up her incredible performance of David Lang’s “Press Release” a few weeks ago) is premiering a set of new works at the Museum of Contemporary Photography this Friday. Heller will perform pieces for bassoon and electronics by composers Edgar Guzmán, Marcelo Toledo, Dai Fujikura, and ICElab 2011 composer Nathan Davis, as well as two world premieres by Chicago composers Marcos Balter and Christopher Fisher-Lochhead. Heller’s performance would also be a great time to check out the current exhibition at MoCP, “Survival Techniques: Narratives of Resistance” which I reviewed earlier this week.
Fri 4/20, 7:30-9:30 PM, Museum of Contemporary Photography, 600 S. Michigan.
Wildhare featuring Bop Alloy
Wildhare is a new series that celebrates hip-hop culture. It was created by artist Elgin Smith to bring visual arts, music, and performance work together for single events. Saturday night’s Wildhare features bicoastal jazz hop duo Bop Alloy—who are in town for Columbia College’s Pacific American heritage month— live painting, and a gallery exhibition.
Sat 4/21, 8 PM-2 AM, Q4/Multikulti, 1000 N. Milwaukee, $5.
