The people’s Macy

There are several cool events happening this weekend around Version Fest 12. Among them is the unveiling of the Small Manufacturing Alliance, or Small, a new organization based out of the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport. Small promotes small local businesses and has partnered with over 100 Chicago individuals and companies including Bridgeport Bakery, Milk and Honey Granola, Dusty Groove Records, and Urban Belly Restaurant. The Small showroom opens tonight with a showcase event that highlights a variety of small businesses with tastings, demonstrations, etc. The Small showroom will be open to the public through May 27.

Fri 5/4, 5-9 PM, Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan.

Standing Heat

“Standing Heat,” the latest performance series at Links Hall, explores the shifting dynamics between humans and animals. The seven performances are spread over three weekends throughout May, and topics range from beekeeper fables to the relationship between Anglo-American women and their horses. “Standing Heat” seems like an evocative series that delves into society’s long-standing love, hate, and dependence on animals. Holly Hues, performance artist and 2010 Guggenheim fellow, curated the festival.

Through 5/20, Fri and Sat 8 PM, Sun 7 PM, Links Hall, 3435 N. Sheffield.
$15 general admission, $12 online, $10 students and seniors. LinksHall.org.
