Robert Ford’s 1963 The Corner shows the street gang in the first years after its 1958 founding in North Lawndale, with gang members’ voiceovers “powerful in their self-awareness… we hear an articulation of the despair and hopelessness that these young men have about their prospects for a job and financial security, and their knowledge of being trapped in a cycle of poverty,” Jason Halprin writes at Cine-File.
