The composer and the lyricist for the stage version of Mary Poppins will join Tony-winning Urinetown composer-lyricist Mark Hollmann for a forum on musical theater Monday. As previously noted here, Hollmann–a veteran of the off-Loop theater and improv scenes, the University of Chicago, and the Columbia College music faculty–will speak at a “meet-the-artist” event sponsored by Theatre Building Chicago’s musical theater development program, in which Hollmann studied. The panel also features composer George Stiles and lyricist Anthony Drewe, the two Brits brought in to flesh out the original Mary Poppins film score for the stage. Stiles and Drewe are founding members of the Mercury Workshop, an organization devoted to developing new musicals. Mon 3/23, 7 PM, Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont, 773-327-5252. The event is free, but seating is limited, so reservations are encouraged.
