A new straight-to-DVD documentary about Curtis Mayfield premieres here next month at a free screening at the Chicago Cultural Center. Movin’ On Up: The Music and Message of Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions plays Friday, April 4, at 7 PM. Director David Peck and Impressions Fred Cash and Sam Gooden will all be present, and following the screening Aaron Cohen, associate editor at Down Beat magazine and a consultant to the documentary, will moderate a panel discussion. The project will be released on DVD in May by Reelin’ in the Years, a company that specializes in visual footage of musical performances. The Mayfield documentary includes 22 complete television appearances spanning 1965 to 1973. Click here to check out the trailer.
