Marta Cebrat-Czernik mixes tassels, leather, and metals to create standout pieces that demand attention. A recent graduate of the Illinois Institute of Art’s fashion program, she launched her jewelry line last fall. “I started doing the tassels—that was one of my inspirations for the spring/summer collection,” she says, adding that for her fall collection, she’s experimenting with dyeing them two different colors. “I definitely like gunmetal chains—they’re universal, you can wear it with so many things.” A former intern with Agga B, a fellow native of Poland, Cebrat-Czernik is also working on a clothing line to debut next year, but says she won’t abandon accessories. Prices run from $80 up to $400 for necklaces, while earrings and bracelets start at about $30 and go up to $120. Pieces are available at Alternatives Shoes (on the fifth floor at 900 N. Michigan), and through her website.
