When I profiled Bloodiest in Sharp Darts earlier this year, they insisted that they don’t consider themselves a metal band, despite the stunning heaviness of their music. It doesn’t help their case that they have an album in the can with Relapse Records—a straight-up metal label—but their performance for Giant System, a local outfit that shoots bands playing in their practice spaces, makes it a little easier to buy their line. Sure, there’s a lot of metal in the 11-minute “Dead Inside”—specifically slow-churning doom—but there’s also a dose of Amrep sludge and, after the song seems to fold in on itself, a significant amount of glistening psychedelia.

I’ll admit that about 70 percent of the time I watch Giant System videos just to see what other bands’ practice spaces look like, but in this case the setting hardly registers.

Video after the jump.
