If it’s true that the bailout deal is “98% done” (not that that’s necessarily a good thing) then that should make the speech from “the White House who has [sic] no standing on this matter on the Hill with either Democrats or Republicans,” which starts in about an hour, well, pretty interesting, like maybe even Howard Beale-interesting. TPM has a working draft of the deal that’s going around.

Also worth noting: I went to four hours of meetings, finished up a post, and when I looked up the McCain campaign done went crazy. And it’s only Wednesday.

Steve Chapman has an interesting suggestion, one that makes more sense than the McCain camp’s current high-risk, weirdo Hail Mary: oppose the bailout. It would certainly endear him to conservative Republicans. Or liberal Democrats. Everyone except members of Congress? I’m so confused.

OK, I have work to do now.
