Last week, contributor Dave Hoekstra wrote about the Taste Entertainment Center, which has been a required stop for many African-Americans since it opened in 1980. 

Photographer Tonika Johnson spent a recent Friday night at the club, but we weren’t able to use all of her images in the story that hit news stands last week. 

So here are some more scenes from her visit, which took place on a “Freeyomind Friday” at the club.

Customers lip-synced to songs, danced, and performed onstage—and all the while other patrons showered them with money. Others were out for a birthday celebration.
