Here’s a Spotify soundtrack to accompany this week’s story on Fletcher Weatherspoon and Chicago’s black social-club scene—thanks to the inclusion of Rudy Ray Moore’s “Signifying Monkey,” it is most definitely NSFW. Not surprisingly, the two records described in the most detail in the article are not available on Spotify. You’re on your own tracking down comedian Jimmy Lynch’s LP-side-length gorilla seduction routine, but I was able to get Mr. Lee to come on my cable-access show Chic-a-Go-Go last week to lip-synch to his rare, classic “Love and Happiness” cover/sample/field recording. Note that the crowd noises are all on the recording, not in the TV studio. Video and embedded Spotify playlist after the jump.
