Today is going to be one of the hardest days copy editors will ever face, so perhaps I should be nicer, but eternal vigilance is the price of good English. kicked the day off right with “Obama prepares to step into history.” I hope he is wearing sensible shoes.

But I think the Bob Greene Memorial Award for Inauguration Bloviation goes to Richard Roeper, whose Twitter feed is one of my guilty pleasures. “Today has been pre-ordained as historic. Future generations will know about this day.”

That’s pretty good, but the laurels go to “Some days start ordinary and become historic–usually for tragic reasons.” In the sense that everyone should do what they do well, my hat is off.
