Toshiro Mifune in The Idiot, 1951

Akira Kurosawa would have been 100 this month and to celebrate the Japanese director’s posthumous centennial, the Criterion Collection is posting trivia questions on Facebook and Twitter and rewarding masters of Toshiro Mifune minutiae by giving away away a different Kurosawa poster, DVD, or Blu-ray disc every weekday in March. The social media PR push is an attempt, in part, to get the word out about Criterion’s 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa box set, and I, for one, am all about any effort to keep this gorgeous linen-bound set front of mind for potential gift buyers. My birthday is also in March. Just sayin’.
