CSPAN’s BookTV just posted an appearance by Beryl Satter, author of my favorite book of this year, Family Properties. It’s a masterpiece, but somewhat remarkably, Satter had an uphill battle convincing her press to let her write about Chicago at all, and they nixed the city’s name from the subtitle (“Race, Real Estate, and the Exploitation of Black Urban America”).

She found it easier after November, of course. So get your Chicago book pitches in quick, kids; after the Obama charm wears off, expect a moratorium until we host the Olympics.
