Earlier today I was wondering why the Bears had so much trouble scoring points despite having, on the whole, an excellent day on offense. A friend just sent me this from Football Outsiders:

[Matt Forte] got four carries from the Detroit 1-yard line. The average back scores about 55 percent of the time from there, but Forte went 0-for-4, including a stuff on fourth-and-goal that nearly cost the Bears the game. Forte rated as the worst back in the league inside the 5-yard line a year ago, and he’s at the bottom of the charts so far in 2010.

Not all of that can be blamed on Forte, of course—he does have an offensive line that’s supposed to clear space for him—but either way it’s a discouraging statistic.
